Description
Surfmud The Original Tinted Covering Cream is the cream surfers have trusted for years. Surfmud describes it as an all-day waterproof barrier built for the harsh conditions faced by surfers. It is made with non-nano zinc oxide, and the iron oxides tint it from bright white to a skin tone so it blends in. The custom tin is watertight and fits in a pocket, so you can take it out in the water with you and top up between sets.

How to use it
Rub the cream into your skin in a circular motion, like a normal lotion, then finish with a second visible layer. It does not need to be thick, just rubbed in and spread evenly over the areas you want to cover. Surfmud wears off with towelling, wetsuit changes and long sessions. It is a visible barrier, so if you can no longer see it, top it up.
Questions we get asked
Will Surfmud wash into my eyes?
No. Surfmud says it will not wash into your eyes, and it has no preservatives that can irritate them. You can apply it under your eyes and over your eyelids, but be careful not to rub it into your eye.
Can I take it in the water?
Yes. The custom tin is watertight and pocket-sized, made for taking out in the water with you.
How do I get it off my face?
Use face-cleansing wipes, then wash your face as normal. Some people keep a dedicated Surfmud washcloth in the shower.
How do I get it off my clothes?
Surfmud is designed to stay on your skin, so it can be hard to remove from fabric. Apply it after you put on your wetsuit or rash guard. If it gets on your clothes, try a stain-removing stick before washing.
What if it melts in the car?
Surfmud melts when it gets very hot. If it does, put it somewhere cool until it sets again. It should be fine to use once set, but try not to let it happen repeatedly.
Does it contain nanoparticles?
No. Surfmud contains no nanoparticles. It uses regular, visible zinc oxide, colored with iron oxides.
Does it come in different shades?
No. It comes in one brown skin tone, and it looks darker the more you apply.
Is it OK for sensitive skin?
Surfmud says zinc oxide is non-irritating, non-allergenic and non-comedogenic. The cream also contains beeswax and lanolin, so check the ingredients if you have an allergy, and do a test patch first.
How long does a tin last?
Because it has no preservatives, Surfmud recommends using it within 12 months of opening.
